Hello Dear Family and Friends:
I think you can tell by looking, that June and July were fantastic, fun, and wonderful months for us on Temple Square. Always lots of wonderful things going on here. We have enjoyed the summer months so much, and still have several to look forward too, as well as lots of more fun activities. On Saturday night, the Osmond Family will appear with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and we are looking forward to that.
Many sisters that we love and adore, have gone home, having completed their missions here, and are now off to the next phase of their lives. Also many special senior couples have left us too, breaking our hearts. We will all keep in touch as best as we can.
The highlight of our summer was a visit from all of our children, as you can tell by the pictures. What a wonderful brief, but loving visit we all had, and knit our hearts even closer together.

Our Beloved Prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley

By now, I'm sure all of you have heard the news that our Beloved Prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley passed on a week ago, at approximately this very time. What an emotional week it has been for all of us here on Temple Square, and for that matter, throughout the whole world.

The honor and respect that has been paid to him throughout the week, has been simply overwhelming, and we feel like we are emotionally drained at this point, and yet at the same time edified, as we are always when we're in his presence. We have fully celebrated his life this week.

We have been in on every bit of the news from the beginning, through all of the activities of the week. We personally got to attend the wonderful funeral services, and the memorial paid to him this morning at "Music and the Spoken Word", by the Tabernacle Choir. All of his children and grandchildren were in attendance there, and it was a one of a kind program. Never before has the choir honored a single individual so profoundly. It was a touching experience that we will never forget, and I can only say that to be in attendance to all of this first hand, was beyond a priviledge, and we feel so blessed to have been here through it all.

We feel so very blessed to have loved and enjoyed this wonderful Prophet for the past 13 years, and can't even name the many gifts of knowledge of the gospel he has imparted to us. We are eternally grateful to him, for all he's done for us personally, and the church and world as a whole, for the past 50 years of his service, since he was called of God. May God's Choicest Blessings be upon our beloved Prophet, who now deserves his eternal rest with his loved ones.

Hello Family and Friends!

Hope your year has gotten off to a good start!

Sorry we have not been in touch for awhile. Many we did not get a Christmas greeting off to, and this we apologize for. We hope the blog makes up for that.

We sure did enjoy hearing from so many, and getting your updates on your families and your activities. We hope you all had a special holiday season.

Christmas was different for us this year, but also nice. We served on Temple Square Christmas Eve Day, but everyone got off at 6pm, and Temple Square closed for the evening. This is the traditional schedule each year.

Larry Miller, the owner of the Jazz, and many other things here, invited the entire mission to his Theater at the Gateway Mall. It was a great time had by all. They showed the movie Work and the Glory, and it was wonderful to see it again on the BIG Screen. They served free popcorn and drinks, and Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus came and gave us all presents. Lots of fun had by all.

Christmas day we also served until 6pm, and again The Square closed. After that we had a beautiful sit down dinner in the Empire room of the Joseph Smith Bldg. All of the Senior Couples had assignments, and cooked all of the food, decorated the tables lavishly, and served a very nice meal to the Sister Missionaries. After the dinner, the Sisters put on a Talent Show. This was incredible! There are approximately 135 Sister missionaries here on the Square at present, and they represent 49 different countires, and speak over 35 languages. Unbelievable talent!! Lots of individual talent, plus the different cultures did their native dances, etc. We had an incredibally good time.

The following Friday, on our P-Day, Diane and Bill's families came to our condo, and we exchanged gifts, and had an informal dinner. Then all of the children went swimming, since we have an indoor pool and spa here. We topped the day off with some very competitive Ping Pong. We missed not being able to be with Beckie's or David's families, but were in touch by phone.

Well, we are still enjoying each other, and serving here on Temple Square. Every day brings incredible experiences. We have grown so close to the other 30 couples in the mission, and the young sisters are amazing. It is hard to believe how close we can get to them, and it makes it very hard to see 20 or so leave every 6 weeks for home.

We have been here 9 months now, so are half way through. We get to see many friends that come here to visit, and run into people we have not seen for years.

Please, if you make it to Temple Square, just ask any Senior Couple, and they will be able to tell you where we are. If we are not on the Square, they can give you our cell phone #'s and you can call us. We will come and meet you, or you can come to our condo. It is only 2 blocks away.

So good to see the Broughton's just before Christmas, and spend a wonderful "spot of time" with them.

Just want to take this time to wish you all the best at this wonderful holiday season.
Needless to say, that the Spirit on Temple Square is unmatched anywhere.
The decorations are the most beautiful, the programs are limitless, and daily, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is at it's tops.
It's just a joy and a pleasure to be here for us, and we thank our Heavenly Father daily for this blessed opportunity.

I feel that I have just had the most incredible two days of my life! We served at the Tabernacle yesterday from 3-9pm. (Speaking of the 12-14th). It was as pretty a day as one could ask for. The evening was even more beautiful.

The Spirit on Temple Square was so strong, that I felt it from everyone I came in contact with.

It is especially good to serve at the Tabernacle on Thursday's, because the Mormon Tabernacle Choir practices on this night, and they invite the public to attend from 8-9:30pm. We love to invite people during the day, and help them plan their time as they decide to stay and take advantage of the opportunity to hear the choir.

We had a group of 30 or so Veterans, and their wives and friends that had served on the USS O'Brian during World War II. They were a wonderful group, and were so interested and impressed with Temple Square. Craig Jessup, the Choir Conductor, did a great job introducing them during the rehearsal. He had them stand, and when they did, the rest of the audience applauded, and soon everyone of the over 3,000 in attendance were standing, and they all turned and looked up into the balcony where the Veteran's were all sitting. The tears were running down the cheeks of the Veterans and their group. It was very touching.

Later in the evening, the choir sang "The Battle Hymn of the Republic", in honor of the Veterans. Bro. Jessup had the audience stand and sing the last verse of it with the choir. The Spirit by that point, was just overwhelming.

A children's choir from China was also there practicing with the Tab. Choir. What a remarkable young group of people they were. I am amazed at the talent and ability of these choirs , that can blend together with such little practice. The Children's Choir will sing with the Tab. Choir on Sunday, the 17th. Hope each of you had the opportunity to catch their performance on T.V.

It is a once in a lifetime experience to feel the love and joy of the guests from all over the world, as they exit the Tabernacle, after the performance. I was standing in the back, when they sang "Champion of Champions", written for the choir to sing in the opening exercises of the 2002 Winter Olympics. When they ended, a man in front of me in the back row, let out a gasp that could be heard throughout the building, he was so overcome. People thank us afterwards, as missionaries, as if we had anything to do with it!

Friday's are our "P" Day. This means a day off. But Friday a.m. was a meeting where the Sisters on the Square get their "Outbound Assignments" for 3 months or so, as well as a Sister's Choir Practice, so we couldn't resist going. At the end of each 6 week transfer, we all meet at 7:30 am on the Friday prior to the following Wed., which is transfer day. First the mission President calls out the Sisters to go to Outbound assignments. There were 22 this transfer. Half way through their 18 month assignment, they go to some other mission in the U.S. for 12 weeks, then return to Temple Square. This is so they can have another experience and a break from the Square. What Excitement!! They let it all out there. I know of no other place where so much love and excitement is shown.

Each 6 weeks about 30 Sisters are called to sing in a Sisters Choir. At the end on the transfer, they perform on a Sunday evening in the Assembly Hall. They are Amazing. They bear strong unforgettable testimonies of the Gospel through song and sweet testimonies. I wish everyone I know, or whom I have ever know, or met could be there!

When I got home this morning, I could have rung water out of my handkerchief. I was so touched that even though I wanted to take a nap, I could not help but to write this experience for each of you instead.

I want you to know that I Love our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ with all my heart. My testimony that they live, and love each and every one of us grows stronger every day.

I have grown to love and respect the very unfortunate people that come to Temple Square looking for spiritual strength and peace in their troubled lives. I know that God loves them as much as he loves each of us.

We love serving at Welfare Square and serving with the sweet mentally and physically handicapped Brothers and Sisters. I am overwhelmed at the Welfare and Humanitarian service and aids that this church provides throughout the world.
I have somewhat known as an involved member, but until we came here and have been somewhat directly involved, I really had no perspective of the greatness of it all.

We see and learn of new things each day, and I know we will for the rest of our mission, and still will not fully understand what all has taken place in the past, or will in the future, as far as this awesome humanitarian work goes.

I apologize for the length of my feelings today. Thanks for letting me share with you.
